A Woman

A woman, a human being

A being of flesh and blood

Full of life, bubbling with joy

All smiles, and a heart full of love.

A woman, a wife

More than a lover in bed

A cook, a nurse, a servant

Multitasking a skill of hers.

A woman, a mother, a caregiver

A journey started at conception

Through months of tears and sweat

But a joy it is to assume this role.

A woman, a friend, a companion

An advisor, a study partner

An ally who stands by you

Through thick and thin, she's unshaken.

A woman, woman of wisdom

Teaching a profession she loves

Imparting knowledge to the young generation

And making a difference for the nation.

A woman, aged but still strong

A grandmother, fondly called 'nana'

Sitting around the fireplace

Sharing stories of decades ago.

Women, said to be the weaker sex

A lawyer, a doctor, an engineer

Good at what they do in diligence

Still, even better than their male counterparts.

Yet you attack her, you man

A defenseless being, incapable of harm

Who warrants not abuse

For she is nothing but a blessing.

Oh man, what goes through your mind

What enters your wicked heart

Do you reason within yourself

Before you strike the wife of your youth.

Oh son, you see the woman who raised you

Who nutured you as an orphan

But instead of reciprocal love

You rape her and leave her for dead.

Oh father, see your pretty girl child

A beautiful child that could be a princess

But rather than protecting her from the world's evil

You are the perpetrator, a betrayer of trust.

Oh brother, stand still and think a minute

The woman you chained like an oxen

And dragged to the fields and continously assualted

Could in a different situation, be your own sister.
